The Ottobock MyGait FES* (functional electrical stimulation) system assists with foot drop associated with conditions of the central nervous system such as Multiple Sclerosis (MS), stroke, acquired brain injury (ABI) spinal cord injury and Parkinson’s disease. MyGait* FES provides a low intensity electrical stimulation to the muscles lifting the drop foot, at just the correct time in the walking cycle. This is delivered through electrodes within a cuff around the lower leg. It uses an accurate wireless signal from the MyGait* foot switch located in a special sock around the foot. It can therefore be used with different types of footwear.
The MyGait* system also has two electrical channels and the second channel can be used by your neuro physiotherapist to stimulate another group of muscles at the appropriate point in the walking cycle.
The need for a rigid ankle foot orthosis whist walking is removed when using the Ottobock MyGait FES* device.
*Please note that the Ottobock MyGait system is no longer being manufactured however we are able to provide an assessment or support to clients with a MyGait unit, please contact us.
